What is Filipino Heroes?
Filipino Heroes is a non-profit, non-government organization that aims to bring about unity among Filipinos towards a certain goal – that is Filipinos helping the world.
By gathering Filipinos together wherever they are in the world, donating a very affordable amount ($10), we can make a difference.
We gain pride in donating to international and local organizations instead of always being on the receiving end.
This is not about being able to help but being a Filipino and helping. Please see “About Us” link for more info.
Who are the people behind Filipino Heroes?
The people behind Filipino Heroes are ordinary citizens who want to improve the image of Filipinos and increase national pride. We have seen how the image of a Filipino has been tarnished over the years and this need not continue. Now is the time to start and build a reputation that together we can make a difference and help the world. Please see “About Us” link to see profiles of people behind FH.
Why should I donate?
Filipino Heroes is for everyone who believes in the Filipino spirit and that we as a race are capable of helping the world.
With your donation of $10 and aiming at 10,000 Filipinos worldwide, we can pull together a sizeable amount that we will give to various international organizations.
Since we are not asking for huge donations, we are banking on a lot of individuals donating.
Most of the time we want to help but sometimes we feel that a small amount would be insignificant. Or sometimes we do not know what venues there are. Your donation to Filipino Heroes makes you : 1) help the world; 2) promote Filipino pride.
How do I donate?
You can donate thru Paypal using your credit or debit cards.
As much as possible, we want to avoid receiving checks because this would mean administrative costs on our part.
We want to appropriate most if not all of the donations to the recipients and not on operational costs.
By the way, Paypal, an eBay company, is the most credible payment gateway.
Can a person donate more than $10?
No! No one will be allowed to donate more than $10. If you have extra $100 to donate, sponsor ten relatives, friends or your employees to be heroes as well. We are doing this because we want more Filipinos engaged in this endeavor. And this also prevents people bragging about their individual donations.
How do I become a Hero?
All you need to do is donate $10. Once you register and give $10, your name would come up in the Heroes List.
How do I become a Superhero?
Before becoming a superhero you need to be a hero. That means you are able to give $10.
If after which you are able to invite/refer a friend or family to join and become a hero then you will automatically become a Superhero.
During the registration process, a new user will be asked if someone referred him or her to join.
This is how the system will automatically upgrade your status from a Hero to becoming a Superhero.
Can a company/organization join? What are the benefits for joining?
Yes a company can be an institutional hero. All you need is to donate $100. Your donation is a proof of being a good corporate citizen. Once you donate, your website will be posted on the list and people who visit the site can click and go to your company website.
How long will my name be placed in the Heroes, Superheroes or Institutional Heroes List?
For a period of one year, your name would be on the list. Before the one year expires you will be sent an email if you want to continue your pledge. If you choose otherwise, your name would be moved to the “Past Heroes” list.
Who are the beneficiaries of my donation?
The beneficiaries of your donation are select international and local organizations.
The list includes international organizations like Greenpeace, Transparency International, Amnesty International and Habitat for Humanity, Philippine-based organizations like Preda Foundation, Haribon Foundation, Gawad Kalinga, Philippine National Red Cross, Filipino Pride Book Project
How are the recipients for donations chosen?
These organizations were chosen because of their reputation.
As for the international organizations, our choice for the first batch of beneficiaries is those that have chapters in the Philippines.
This will facilitate the ease in donating the amount. However, these organizations are not permanent.
There will be other recipients in the succeeding donations.
Can my organization apply to be a beneficiary?
Your organization can apply to be a beneficiary by writing to us and giving us a background of your organization and your projects. Subject to the approval of the board, your organization may be approved as a beneficiary.
The Philippines is developing country herself and needs more help, why should we help others instead of helping our nation first?
We agree with this sentiment. However, one of the major objectives of FH is to intensify our pride as a nation by promoting our positive traits to other countries. We believe that nation building is more than building infrastructures, it is developing a positive mindset and outlook towards ourselves as a race. In addition, helping groups with international causes in a way is helping our country as well. If Greenpeace for example will be more successful in helping the environment, wouldn’t we be positively affected as well? It’s about time that more Filipinos become global citizens, proactively participating in universal causes.
How can I make sure that my money is not pocketed or spent on something else?
We will show proof of each donation, and will give financial reports to show that all the money is accounted. These will be posted in the website. Board members of this group are also well respected individuals in their own fields. We have professors from University of the Philippines, Ateneo de Manila, De La Salle University and Asian Institute of Management. Others are reputable consultants or hold significant posts both from private and public sectors.
Aside from donating, how else can I be involved?
You can help by spreading the news about Filipino Heroes and encourage others to donate. You can conduct an email brigade so more people will know about Filipino Heroes. You can be a local volunteer and put up your own chapter. From time to time we will upload collaterals you can download to help you promote FH even better.
Are there representatives of Filipino Heroes soliciting money?
Filipino Heroes is web-based. Some volunteers would promote FH from time to time.
Although as yet they are not allowed to solicit money.
They would only ask interested donors to go to the website.
Everything is online.
Thus, if you see any or hear of anyone directly asking for money, please email us asap at bayani@filipinoheroes.org.
Clearly, they are misrepresenting the organization.
